Wildland Suppression Units

Wildland fires scorch thousands of acres and cause millions in property losses each year across the US. Within the PLFD, wildland fire responses average 61 responses each year which accounts for 54% of our fire responses and 15% of our total responses. To combat these fires, the PLFD utilizes multiple vehicles that allows for fire attack from several directions to help minimize fire losses.

Brush 770

Currently housed at Station 1, Brush 770 is a 1997 Cheverolet C-2500 4-Wheel Drive Type 7 Wildland response unit. 770 is equipped with a 7.5 gpm pump and 200 gallon water tank. This apparatus was received as part of the Alabama Forestry Commision's volunteer equipment loan program in 2005 and placed into service later that year. The truck carries chainsaws and wildland suppression hand tools such as fire rakes and flaps.

770 has a first due response area for all areas North of I-65 and Hwy 31 and responds to all wildland fires in that area.

This apparatus was purchased from Wynn Southeast Fire Apparatus in 2012 and placed into service in 2013. The truck carries chainsaws and wildland suppression hand tools such as fire rakes and flaps. This unit also responds to EMS and MVA calls and is equipped with a Hurst Combi Tool for extrication.

771 has a first due response area for all areas South of I-65 and Hwy 31 and responds to all wildland fires in that area. Additionally, 771 serves as a second out rescue for all EMS calls.

Truck 714

Currently housed at Station 1, Truck 714 is a 1998 Cheverolet P-30 step van. 714 carries the PLFD Mule for wildland response. The truck also serves as the reserve service truck and is capable of carrying all ISO required service company equipment. Future plans include equipping the truck to serve as a rehab unit for wildland response.

714 has a first due response area for all areas of the district and responds to all wildland fires in that area.

The Mule

Currently housed at Station 1 in Truck 714, The Mule is a 2014 Kawasaki 4 seat 4-wheel drive ATV. The Mule is equipped with a 7.5 gpm pump and 50 gallon water tank for wildland response. The Mule is supplied to the department through a generous program with Kawasaki and Adam's Motorsports of Montgomery. The department is loaned the Mule annually and exchanges it each Spring. The Mule has also been used at large public gatherings and disaster response such as the 2008 tornado that hit Prattville.
